Nelson Law Firm Expands Denver Team With Addition of Attorney Kevin P. Ahearn and Paralegal Marcia Forney

Veteran litigator and experienced personal injury paralegal join Colorado's construction defect firm as demand for homeowner and HOA representation continues to grow.

DENVER, Colorado. Nelson Law Firm has announced the addition of two members to its Denver office. Kevin P. Ahearn joins the firm as an attorney, and Marcia Forney joins as a paralegal. Both additions strengthen the firm's capacity to represent homeowners, custom home owners, and homeowners associations in construction defect, insurance, and personal injury matters across Colorado.

The firm has recovered more than $500 million for clients across more than 1,000 resolved cases. The additions reflect a deliberate approach to growth, with the firm continuing to prioritize depth of experience over volume.

Kevin P. Ahearn, Attorney

Kevin P. Ahearn brings more than 25 years of litigation experience to the firm, with a practice focused on construction, personal injury, insurance, and commercial disputes. He has represented both plaintiffs and defendants throughout his career, and his background includes resolving high-stakes construction insurance claims for one of the largest general contractors in the country. That dual perspective allows him to anticipate opposing strategy and move matters toward efficient resolution.

Mr. Ahearn earned his J.D. from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law in 1999 and holds a B.S. from Purdue University. He has been admitted to the Colorado bar since 1999 and is also admitted before the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. He is a member of the Colorado Bar Association and the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association.

Originally from Western New York, Mr. Ahearn moved to Denver in 1996 and has spent three decades in Colorado.

“I have spent a good portion of my career on the other side of these disputes, which gives me a clear view of how they are defended,” said Ahearn. “Bringing that perspective to homeowners and associations is the part of this work I find most worthwhile. Nelson Law Firm takes cases seriously and prepares them properly and ethically, and that is the environment I wanted to practice in.”

Marcia Forney, Paralegal

‍

Marcia Forney joins Nelson Law Firm with more than 15 years of legal experience and a specialization in personal injury matters. She guides attorneys and clients through each phase of the litigation process, and she brings personal experience with personal injury matters to her work, which informs how she supports clients during difficult periods.

Ms. Forney earned her associate degree and paralegal certification from Arapahoe Community College. She is recognized for meticulous attention to detail and for the level of service she provides to clients throughout a case.

A Colorado native, Ms. Forney lives in the state she grew up in and spends her time outside of work with her husband and their cats, often cooking.

“Clients come to us at a point when they are already worn down by what has happened to them,” said Forney. “Having been through a personal injury matter myself, I understand what that feels like from their side of the table. Keeping people informed and making sure nothing falls through the cracks is what makes the difference for them.”

A Measured Approach to Growth

Founding partner Mark W. Nelson, an AV-rated civil trial attorney with more than 30 years of experience across 11 states, said the additions were made with the firm's long-standing standards in mind.

“We have never grown for the sake of growing,” said Nelson. “Kevin has handled these cases from both sides at a very high level, and Marcia brings the kind of judgment that comes from years of doing this work carefully. Our clients are dealing with their homes and their finances, and they are entitled to a team that treats those matters with real attention.”

Both Mr. Ahearn and Ms. Forney are based in the firm's Denver office and are supporting matters throughout Colorado, including work originating from the firm's Beaver Creek presence.
